Beirut’s State Prosecutor for Appeals charges company with negligenc

09/18/2020

The explosion that erupted in Beirut on the 4th of August touched the whole world. A month later, a massive fire erupted at the port causing major anxiety across the country, especially since the explosion originally began as a massive fire prior to its eruption. Albeit investigation is still taking place, a company has already been charged with negligence for the fire that took place on the 10th of September. Beirut’s State Prosecutor for Appeals Judge Ziad Abu Haidar charged Business Bay International SAL Offshore and its director, Akram El-Kheshen, with negligence. Business Bay International is an offshore firm in Lebanon specialized in Indoor Air Quality Consultancy and environmental solutions in which Judge Ziad Abu Haidar accused them for destroying both public and private property, caused massive pollution and triggered immense panic amongst Lebanese citizens, thus should take responsibility for their negligence and actions.

The fire that took place on 10th of September raised eyebrows regarding whether evidence was being destroyed related to the august 4 explosion and therefore head of Beirut Bar Association urged for serious and immediate investigation.

Lebanon remains with unanswered questions and can only hope that its judicial system can in fact grant the country some justice.
